Stephen Fried

Stephen Fried is a freelance director based in New York City. His work has been seen at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, The New School for Drama, Sundance Theatre Lab, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Milwaukee Shakespeare, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, The Shakespeare Theatre Company, and at the Yale School of Drama. He has worked on new plays with playwrights Sarah Treem, Cori Thomas, Rob Askins, Kenneth Lin, Clarence Coo, David Lefort Nugent, Amy Herzog, and Michael Wrynn Doyle. He holds a BA in History and Drama from Stanford University and an MFA in Directing from the Yale School of Drama. His upcoming projects include Clarence Coo's Beautiful Province at NYTW's 4th Street Theatre, All's Well that Ends Well at the Shakespeare Theatre of NJ in September, 2010, as well as a new musical adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's The Overcoat, which he is writing with composer Josh Schmidt and which was commissioned by Writers Theatre in Glencoe, IL.
